Media 100’s new software only editor

And yet another entry into the desktop video editing market. Actually, Media 100 has been around for a loooong time. They have (had?) carved out a niche in the corporate and industrial market. I’m my years editing I have encountered approximately 2 systems. The new Media 100 Producer is this:
“Media 100 Producer is a full-featured software-only model that offers a
mobile and scalable editing environment as well as FireWire I/O and
Panasonic P2 acquisition capabilities.
Ideal
for in-the-field or mobile editing, editors using Media 100 Producer
can shoot using their Panasonic P2 camera and immediately begin
editing; they can even offload the media and continue to use their
Panasonic P2 card. In addition, Media 100 Producer can use media
captured by Apple Final Cut Pro, Media 100 i, 844/X, Media 100 HD,
Media 100 HD Suite, Media 100 HDe, and Media 100 SDe systems to edit,
composite, and mix and output via FireWire or export to DVD or web.”
There’s not a lot of specs on the Media 100 website yet. They don’t even have the system specs up that I can find. There is a trial version link on the site but as I write this I can’t download a copy. Maybe they are overloaded. I just wonder how much room there is in the Macintosh market for another video editing application. Only time will tell.
