Random comments on editing

Robert Hogan has a blog called Adventures in Storytelling. On January 10 he posted an entry called On Editing and it is just a bunch of quotes and comments on editing from some anonymous authors as well as motion picture editors. A couple of my favorites are:

Resist the urge to chop up someone’s good work – whether it be an actor of the DP.

Cutting dialogue sequences is much more difficult because it’s not just cutting words: You’re cutting the emotion. You are cutting lives connecting. Attitudes, moments, emotions. And the actors have to look good; they have to be cherished and they have to be honored.

    Thanks for the link. I’ve gone back to that post many times over the last year in editing two short films. Great stuff in there, I’m glad that I was able to share it.
