Favorites of 2006 (and a few from 2005)
By S Simmons. Filed in Editing |Every year at tax time I drag out all of my saved receipts from the previous year. That includes movie ticket stubs which I like to then rank in order of preference. Since I’m in a second teir market it can sometimes take a while to get some of the films in smaller theatrical release so that’s why there’s some 2005′s in there. I think I’m missing a few as I know I saw more movies in the theatre than that.
1. Thank You For Smoking
2. Cars Yet another triumph from Pixar. When will these guys misfire?
3. Old Joy A quiet little indie that was very unique.
4. Borat Funny. What more can be said.
5. The Queen
6. Sweet Land Another quite indie, a good festival find.
7. Blood Diamon Intense.
8. Munich Also intense.
9. Good Night and Good Luck
10. Brokeback Mountain
11. Apocalypto Enjoyable but something was missing.
12. Superman Returns Another enjoyable flick but something was missing from it as well.
13. Awesome, I F***in’ Shot That Love it or hate it, a concert film every editor should see.
14. Talladega Nights
15. An Inconvenient Truth Don’t you just love being told how to act by the rich?
17. King Kong Yea the effects were great but forgettable in the end.
18. The Second Chance A locally made film that gets an A for effort.
19. Hoodwinked

Your list is definitely ecclectic! I, too, am an editor and film buff, and I noticed that you lived in Nashvegas. (I’m from Franklin, TN), so I thought that it would be wise to peruse your blog. Good stuff, man, very good stuff.
