3 Inspirations
By S Simmons. Filed in Editing |As a creative professional I often take note of things that inspire me. This weekend there was the unusual situation of 3 things coming along, all of which have been very inspiring so I thought I would share.

The first was DVR heaven as we fired up the tv to watch a backlog of the Discovery channel’s When We Left Earth, The Nasa Missions. This is “the story of mankind’s greatest adventure, leaving the earth and living in space.” It’s an amazing series with some of the most unbelievable space footage I have ever seen. The HD transfers are gorgeous and there are interviews with what feels like most all of the astronauts and mission commanders. The program is very well done and very suspenseful even though we know the outcome of all the missions. Kudos to the writers and editors as I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if the particular mission they are talking about ends in failure even though I know it doesn’t since one of the astronauts on the flight is being interviewed! And the music is top notch as well. It’s one of the better documentary series I’ve seen on television.

Second, I began reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. It’s a post-apocalyptic story about a father and son as they travel over land in a barren world. Both a Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction and an Oprah book club selection, it doesn’t feel anything like most “post-apocalyptic” stories that I’ve ever read or seen. I’m not even halfway through the book yet but the father-son element makes this story really unique.

Finally, I happened across a website called justcreativedesign.com that has two great posts of still imagery. 56 Awe Inspiring Must See Creative Photographs and 92 More Must See Creative Photographs are filled with unique images and Photoshop-style creations that you can really waste a lot of time exploring. It makes me wish I had more time to spend on the still image. The site has been having some database errors over the weekend but it is worth trying to connect as they’ve collected some really fun stuff.
Enjoy.
