STP 3 - what a nightmare! never had this problem before! but using STP for this edit was a mistake. STP 3 actually introduces noise, holes and level issues when none exist in the rushes. Mixing down makes it worse. Exporting makes it worse. Never again will this product be used in this house!

STPro has always been a big buggy/janky when using the "Send To" linkage capabilities between it and FCP. I nearly always export out self-contained AIFFs from FCP and then open them in STPro, doing any re-importing or relinking back into FCP manually. In the end it's faster (for what I do). It's a fine program for certain tasks, and serves my needs well. Of course I'm not an audio engineer either, nor do my mixes tend to be very complex...

Works well for quick fixing a single audio file, or putting together a real brief multi track session. For being an audio app it runs realll slow and I have more crashes/stability problems with Soundtrack than any other Apple app. Comes with a good sound library though. More often than not I'll just use Soundtrack to browse the library and then just import the files directly into FCP.
