Screen redraw revisited
By S Simmons. Filed in Editing, Final Cut Pro, Mac software |While we’re on the subject of screen redraws, this one has been around in Final Cut Pro for years and years. I’ve seen it happen on most every FCP system I’ve worked on. It seems if you are keyframing in the motion tab at a certain zoom level and you scroll horizontally then the tracks don’t always follow your scroll. The blue guide keyframes at the top then are no longer in line with the real keyframes below, plus the tracks are no longer even so you might go click on a keyframe and it isn’t really there. Plus it leaves behind the dark vertical lines where your playhead used to be as seen in the image above! A quick zoom in or out will re-redraw it properly but it is annoying when doing a lot of heavy keyframes. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they haven’t fixed this in all of the years I’ve seen it happening. I noted this a long time ago as part of my Bottom 10 FCP … tips? and of course it’s still there.

Yes, this glitch is definitely annoying, and the FInal Cut team ought to be drawn and quartered for not fixing it year after year after year.

I’ve noticed it too – most of the time I side-scroll rather than zooming in or out to get the re-draw.
I’ve also wondered why Apple doesn’t allocate more than 2.5 GB of RAM for render either…

Continuing from my comment on your previous post, you’re right FCP does suffer in the key frame area. I forgot because I’ve started doing almost every effect in After Effects and Motion, both of these applications don’t seem to suffer this problem.
BTW, I’m just a student with lots of time on my hands, I understand the need for FCP to do effects.
