Linkage: September 2008
By S Simmons. Filed in Blogs and links, from the net, Internet resources |I’ll be offline for most of the rest of the week (shooting video of automobiles in the Poconos !!!!) so I though I would share a few links I’ve been reading over the last little while:
James Cameron is talking about AVATAR to the Edmontonsun Sun. This is going to be one exiciting picture.
Studios wary of big budget auteurs. But isn’t a failure by Fincher, Jonze and Cameron going to be infinitely more interesting that most of what hits the local Googleplex?
HD Film Tools has a two part (one, two) interview with John Leonetti, ASC on shooting RED.
FreshDV has been airing a Director’s Course as part of their FreshDV Film School. It’s at FreshTV. Good stuff, I hope editing is in the future.
The FreshDV guys are also part of the Pro Video Coalition now and have a great article Seven Rules for Film and Video Editors.
The Final Cut Professional is a new site dedicated to Final Cut Pro. Proprietor CJ Bruce will take your suggestions on what type of articles you would like to see.
35mm Adapter is a blog about … 35mm lens adapters for mostly fixed lens cameras. I read it all the time as I try to decide which adapter to buy for my Canon HV20. And speaking of HV20, ProLost’s Taming the Toy is HV20 love at its finest.
The Free Sound Project is a “collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds.” I’ve used it many times.
And now for non-production/post links:
Dear Adobe is a site for you if you think Adobe’s current offerings are too bloated and computer-resource-hogging.
DA Font is a great font website that has fonts for download that “are their authors’ property, and are either freeware, shareware, demo versions or public domain.” I’ve found a few here that I’ve needed from time to time.
Give me back my Google will give you Google search results minus a lot of the sponsored links that only want to sell you something.
Post Secret is a site where people mail in their secrets on a postcard. Hours of voyeuristic enjoyment can be had here.
Finally, Chris Jordan is an artist who has a series called Running the Numbers which “looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics.” Some really amazing stuff.
