What are the little film, video, post things you are thanful for?
By S Simmons. Filed in Editing |If you are in America then you are probably about to celebrate the Thanksgiving holidays. With that holiday we often like to take a moment to remember what we are thankful for. And even if you aren’t from the states it can still be a nice exercise. Of course we all have the obvious things we are thankful for like family, friends, steady employment or an active freelancing base …Â and our dog. But since this is a blog about editing, post-production and film/video related stuff I was thinking of the little things in that area that I’m thankful for:
• The Twitter community that has built-up around film/video and all the good stuff I’ve learned, questions I’ve answered and have had answered. Follow editblog!
• My Other World Computing Mercury On-The-Go Pro portable, bus-powered hard drive. An essential tool.
•
The Trim Mode in Avid Media Composer
•
The Play Around Current Frame key in Final Cut Pro.
• That That Post Show is podcasting about a niche we are all interested in. New episode btw!
• That B & H Photo doesn’t (yet) charge sales tax for my state.
•
Loader
• That the concept of Internet discussion forums exist and work so well. I’m thankful for Apple’s Final Cut Pro forum, Avid’s Media Composer forum, reduser.net, the HV20/30 forum and all of Creative Cow.
• Byline for reading Google Reader RSS feeds on the iPhone. Very thankful for Byline.
That’s just a few little things that I’m thankful for in this world of film, video, edit and fillmmaking. What are some little things you are thankful for? Happy thanksgiving from the Editblog.

I’m thankful for 35mm sensors with interchangeable lenses on affordable dual video/still cameras! That and the amazing communities established through Twitter and FXPHD. Thanks to everyone who teaches me new things everyday and challenges my technical and creative knowledge. Have a great Thanksgiving!

I’m thankful for real time video playback and freeware like MPEGStreamclip. Oh and digital distribution for music, movies, video, books and anything else that can be digitized and sent thru the internet.

Oh and I almost forgot!!! I’m also thankful for high speed internet because the 15-20 Kbps transfer speed in Iraq just wasn’t cutting it for me

Great ideas, some I will have to try for the first time. Thanks..
Totally agree with Twitter and The Cow…
All and any Trapcode plugins, and Toolfarm for making them easy to buy and learn
Yep! is a great PDF manager, for wrangling all those User Manuals we take the time to read
OnTheJob for tracking time, to make sure I stay profitable
Punakea for managing, tracking and tagging movies, files, images. Makes finding stuff all over my hard drives easy
Episode, ffmpegX, MPEGStreamClip and VisualHub all make getting video from one place to the other (desktop to the web mostly) really easy. I’d be lost without them.
Vimeo for checking out loads of great videos.
FXGuide, PixelCorps and Prolost for learning tons and tons and tons of stuff I will sadly likely never need.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your readers
