Here’s a great video making the rounds on Twitter this morning. It’s some camera slate fun from the set of Inglourious Basterds. Apparently it’s on the DVD. Check it out before it gets taken down and probably NSFW.

Not to be a bummer about this, but there are very very few sets where this would be acceptable. I’ve seen actors explode at second ACs who talk too loud when they slate a take (there were a lot of “soft sticks” and tail slates on that show) and most directors are way more protective of their actors’ spaces than this.

This is funny (though, as an editor, I would have wished for about 40 seconds less) though I wouldn’t want to give up-and-coming filmmakers the idea that this is a practice that should be encouraged.

By the way, as a sidelight, I wonder how many of those up-and-coming filmmakers could have identified as many international filmmakers as the second AC on this show did.

Oh man, as I don’t work in the industry it took about 2/3 of the video before I figured out the sequence – yes, I’m slow. Then, watched it again…too funny!
