Linkage: March 2011

This Japan Quake Map is amazing to watch as it shows the quake and its aftershocks in a way you may not have seen before. Consider donating to the Red Cross if you can. Or Doctors Without Borders for another great cause.

Avid Media Composer 5.5 has shipped. You asked, Avid listened. And Freddy’s big list of Avid links has been updated accordingly.

There’s been a lot of speculation on the next version of Final Cut Pro. I speculated a bit more. And this Cinema5D thread is just insane in its length and discussion on the topic.

Here’s the NAB exhibit interactive floorplan.

Are you going to the NAB SuperMeet? You could win a $30,000 DaVinci Resolve.

The RED EPIC articles and footage are starting to really fly. Check out The Impossible Shot.

These shooting tips from the edit suite are good shooting tips for all shooters.

Even if you don’t know what frankenbiting is you’ve probably done it before.

If you use Media Composer and AMA then you should know how to get out of the yard.

Here’s a great piece on DaVinci Resolve vs. Nucode Film Master.

Did you see all the 28 Days of Quicktips collected into one place?

Did you know you can communicate with Adobe’s pro video and audio teams?

If you don’t use multiple FCP window layouts you really should learn how to do it.

So you CAN install iMovie on a first generation iPad.

Try x264 as an alternative to H.264.

That’s a cute video to promote the Arri Alexa and your studio.

AJA Ki Pro Mini vs. nanoFlash.

Being an editor is hard work. And again but different: Being an editor is hard work.

If you’re wondering about SAN storage system then read this article.

And if you’re wondering about an “inexpensive” display for your post production then this article might help with that.

Another way to wirelessly control FCP with your iPhone.

I like to read about other’s Adobe Lightroom workflow since I use it and I’m not a pro photographer.

You might win an iPod Touch by submitting your idea for destroying one.

NAB 2011 SuperMeet Grand Prize: DaVinci Resolve with full panels

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Normally I try to post a note up a week or so before a SuperMeet as a reminder to grab your tickets if you haven’t done so already. Plus it might help you decide to attend if you haven’t decided already. We’re still over a month away from the 10th Annual Las Vegas NAB SuperMeet (which is also the 10 anniversary of FCPUG SuperMeets) but the grand prize that was very recently announced was so good I wanted to spread the word.

This year that grand prize will be a DaVinci Resolve System that includes the full DaVinci Control Surface. That’s the Resolve software (it doesn’t specify but that’d be for Mac) and the $30,000 hardware panels. That’s quite a grand prize. I think this is significant as some of the big prizes in recent years were cameras and camera gear. This grand prize is all post-production.

The SuperMeet will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at the Bally’s Hotel Event Center on the Vegas strip. No trekking over to the Rio this year (but I guess that means no lingerie show going on next door either). There’s a whole lot more prizes to be given away besides the Resolve system. All the details can be found on the official SuperMeet page. Tickets are only $10.00 but that’s the earlybird special that runs through March 15. Keep your eyes on the SuperMeet page for the agenda to be posted soon.
