If you missed Thursday’s Useful Applications for Digital Filmmakers webinar it’s now available for download as an On Demand webinar. For $25 you get the full 90 minute, screen captured webinar, a podcast about the topic, an extra 15 minute (or so) video presentation with several tools we didn’t discuss during the webinar. This webinar will be a fast, fun walk-through and discussion of handy, useful Macintosh applications that would be at home in any digital filmmaker’s toolbox. The software discussed will run the gamut from free to paid, a few dollars up to a few hundred. While all stages of filmmaking will be discussed with useful tools for pre-production, production and post-production, a strong emphasis will be placed on post production.

This was really a fun webinar to present as it wasn’t the usual task or workflow oriented program but rather a fun, fast walkthrough of a lot of tools that I know I couldn’t live without. I hope it might help in spending some money!

Anyhoo … one of the videos on my last Palladia viewing was director Chris Milk’s Audioslave video Doesn’t Remind Me. I was reminded what an incredibly awesome this music video really is. A great story, snappy editing, gorgeous images and not a frame of performance from the band. It’s a mini movie. Why can’t more videos be told this way? If you have any favorites of this type of video please post a comment. There’s part of the video embeded below from Milk’s Vimeo page but it only seems to load the first couple of minutes of the video (probably by request) so you can click over to see the full thing. You have to watch it to the end for full effect. On the “official” Universal Music Group channel on You Tube they’ve disabled embedding and the whole experience is so peppered with ads so I’m not even going to link to it.

I also learned that Milk directed the wonderful 42 second short film Last Day Dream.

The above video has been making the rounds lately. I’m a sucker for single shot productions that are well executed and this Johnnie Walker piece is a great example of a simple concept, talented delivery and great production value that all come together to pull it off. Now if only Johnnie Walker was half as good as a nice single malt like Laphroaig or Lagavulin.

Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School.

If you’ve ever wanted to attend film school then this is it. While it’s not your typical 4 year or 2 year program it’s sure to be a very unique weekend at “a conference room of a Los Angeles hotel” during the weekend of January 8-10, 2010, with the master himself, Werner Herzog. For a $25 application fee, and $1450 if you are accepted, you won’t get any technical training nor will you get a lunch. But what you will get is guaranteed to be an experience unlike any other from a filmmaker unlike any other. If you don’t understand what that means then you don’t know Herzog and most certainly shouldn’t even be considering attending his film school. Read through the about page and get a better idea of what might be in store … though somehow I bet no one, not even Herzog, knows for sure.
