If you want to get some good training for a great price then check out New Media Webinars as they are currently having a 2 for 1 sale on their on-demand webinars. You have to act fast as the sale ends at the end of the week, July 31. There’s no special link on the website so this is how you get the deal (from the New Media Webinars newsletter):

Purchase any of our on-demand webinars between 7/26/2010 and 7/31/2010 and get one for free! Yes! That means you are getting 2 on-demand webinars for only $25. But hurry, because this sale ends on 7/31/2010. All purchases must be dated between 7/26/2010 and 7/31/2010. You will automatically receive an email after your purchase with instructions on how to get your 2nd on-demand webinar for free.

This is the perfect opportunity to promote the DSLR Filmmaking Post Workflows webinar that I recently conducted for New Media Webinars:

The reason the 2 for 1 sale is a perfect deal? You can get both the DSLR Filmmaking Post Workflows and the DSLR Filmmaking Production Reality Check conducted by Peter Cote for one $25 purchase. That’s a lot of DSLR info for very little money. If you don’t know Peter’s work then check out his DSLR Show website or see the amazing work he did on the Guy Walks Across America video.

So you can hack Premiere Pro to work with more nVidia cards.

As is the case with all SuperMeets there’s a great lineup for the even and lots of prizes for the world famous raffle.

A few of standouts IMHO: Mitch Jacobson will be discussing mulitcamera madness and discussing his new multicam book (which I had the pleasure of contributing to if only a bit), Avid will be back onstage at a SuperMeet with a discussion with Erin Gallagher, editor on Discovery’s “Build It Bigger” show and, of course, you can’t have an event like this today without discussing DSLRs and DP Rodney Charters will be doing just that as well as talking about his impressive body of work.

As for the raffle: An AJA KiPro, two DaVinci Resolve for Mac licenses, an nVidia Quadro FX 4800 graphic card for Mac, hard drives, lighting and camera gear, software plug ins and the full spectrum of software from Avid, Apple and Adobe.

The doors to the event open at 4:30, Friday June 25 at the Back Bay Events Center, John Hancock Hall. Tickets are usually $10 in advance but you can get a ticket for free with our Discount Code. Here’s how:

1. Go to: http://supermeetbos10.eventbrite.com/

2. Click on the ENTER DISCOUNT CODE link.

3. Enter discount code: editblogvip

4. Fill out registration with legitimate email and address for EACH name.

Enjoy the Boston SuperMeet this coming Friday, it looks like another good show.

Share Ross looks at it from A Frog’s Eye View. Dylan Reeve had one of the first reviews on the ‘net. Editor Job ter Burg looks at some of the smaller things in v5. Steve Cohen discusses it too. A very long and detailed article about the path to Media Composer can be read here. And there’s a whole bunch of training videos up on Avid’s website so grab the free, full-featured 30 day demo and check it out.

Norman Hollyn has taken the Media Composer 5 discussion a step further than a simple review. Oliver Peters has done the same thing and they are both great reads.

Newmediawebinars.com is having two DSLR webinars: DSLR Filmmaking Production Reality Check on June 17 and DSLR Filmmaking Post Workflows on June 22. The Post webinar will be hosted by me.

June 25 is a big Final Cut Pro User Group Network SuperMeet in Boston. That’s not far away so grab your tickets!

Here’s a nice techy discussion on Drop Frame Timecode and come conversion code if you’re so inclined.

This is a great article on managing audio layers in FCP.

CineTechnica has listed a few HDSLR rig alternatives.

Check out this article on Dirty Editing and may your timeline never be so sloppy again.

So the iPhone’s not the only cell phone that can edit video …. and speaking of Editing from Airplanes and iPhones.

Do you hate it when you click over to Compressor and all the windows don’t jump back to the front?

Magic Bullet Grinder was release for converting your H264 DSLR footage and several of us wrote pieces about it around the web.

If you’re familiar with PluralEyes then you might be interested in the DualEyes beta that is a standalone version. It’s PC only right now.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 has shipped and The Lightrooom Lab has a number of articles about the new features, buying and upgrading.

ReelPost is a new website for posting your reel and networking with other editors … maybe find an editor or find a job?

Wanna see a YouTube video that was compressed over and over, like 1000 times?

You should check out the great Get Faster in Final Cut Pro series that the You Down With FCP blog is doing.

This is a nice reduser.net post about one person’s reasons that 1080p isn’t enough.

This is indeed a big collection of Avid information and tutorials (it’s a big pdf btw). I hope it will be updated soon for version 5.0.

I’m proud to say that I’ll be working with NewMediaWebinars.com and presenting a webinar about DSLR post-production on June 22, 2010. The session will begin at 10:00 am Pacific (1:00 pm for the east coasters) and lasts 90 minutes. The webinar is free to attend live but the best value is the $25 package that includes the live event, a downloadable HD version of the archive, an audio podcast with an exclusive Q and A as well as project files used during the webinar. You can read all about the event including a detailed description on what we will be covering as well as an agenda at the DSLR Post Workflow page. If you have any specific questions you’d like to see covered then please comment below and we’ll try to address them. This is part of a two webinar series that New Media Webinars is doing that also includes a DSLR Filmmaking Production Reality Check.

A short preview (a look at the CAnon EOS Log and Transfer plug-in for Final Cut Pro) is below. If you’re curious about DSLR post-production then this event is for you.

If you didn’t know that Nashville experienced Biblical flooding the first weekend of May then (and you may not know) … well, we did. And cleanup is well underway.
So there’s been this big debate recently about H.264 licensing that comes with your video camera.

If you didn’t know that Nashville experienced Biblical flooding the first weekend of May then (and you may not know) … well, we did. And cleanup is well underway.

So there’s been this big debate recently about H.264 licensing that comes with your video camera.

Fini has a great list of color correction edumacation resources.

And A.C.E. member has written about the end of Final Cut (for him).

What if you had to cut 5 one-hour episodes in a week?

The Foundry is releasing a new product called Storm.

And Oprah is starting a documentary club that might be a game-changer?

Been wondering about moving from Avid to FCP to get to Color?

If you want to know a bunch of Avid console commands then look here but be very careful with them.

Want to know how to compress video for the iPad?

You apparently can make an Edit Change list in Final Cut Pro.

Here’s a great article on learning …. and why we resist it.

Don’t forget about Post Haste to help organize your editing assets.

Ahhhh the L-cut.

And ahhh so color grading is done on a proper monitor! I’m amazed that some don’t know this.

Jon Chappell talks about aperture changes in Compressor 3.5.

So some of the Photoshop CS5 tricks have been available in GIMP.

Here’s a couple of CS5 videos: Dynamic Link and Adobe Media Encoder.

And there’s a handy After Effects rendering droplet.

Filmcontracts.net has about every film contract you can think of.

This is a nice roundup of several Avid Media Composer 5.0 videos.

If you’re wondering about the Canon 7D vs. T2i video mode controls then check out this link.

And speaking of MC 5.0, check out Shane Ross talking about the announcement.

Seems there’s a free iPad film slate out there.

If you’re presenting with an iPad and Keynote then this is worth a read.

Really? A toe mouse/flip flop mouse? I must have one.

Engadget has a rechargeable battery shootout.

Here’s a Nikon D90 shot short film that was sent to me and one of the better looking D90 pieces I’ve seen.

And then there’s 100 useful and free Mac apps.

And any stuff from Dr. Strangelove is worth looking at right?

As many of you may know, we here in Nashville experienced what can best be described as Biblical flooding over the weekend, getting more rain in a 48 hour period than has ever been recorded here. Needless to say much of the town is underwater, including whole communities like Bellevue and Franklin. And then there’s the Nashville landmarks that have suffered too. The Grand Ole Opry, Titans Stadium, the downtown riverfront, our arena (and more) all flooded.

This little video below is making the rounds now and it’s a much different perspective on a flooding disaster than the news coverage. I was going to say it’s different from what you’ll usually see but with the prevalence of Canon DSLRs these days you’ll pretty much see this type of video after any natural disaster. This one showed up and took my mind off the classroom floating down the interstate, Mill Creek, the Opryland Hotel, the big mall, the Nashville weather penis, … so thanks to its creator.
