It’s hard to believe that the NAB SuperMeet was some two months ago. That’s two months that we’ve all had to speculate and rumormonger about Final Cut Pro X! A week from this Thursday, on June 23, the London version of the SuperMeet will happen. From the looks of the agenda there’s a few topics that were cut from the NAB SuperMeet (when Apple took over the agenda) that are going to be presented on London. Alexis Van Hurkman will demo DaVinci Resolve 8 and there will be a presentation on Demystifying Smoke on Mac OS X with Joe Billington. There’s quite a few other presentations scheduled as well (including FCP guru Larry Jordan talking about something) plus the world famous raffle. There’s an iPad listed in the raffle prizes so that’ll be a nice non-production/post win for someone. Grab your tickets now if you’re going to be in London on June 23 … I’d love to be there too if that wasn’t my birthday.

Backup Reminder: May 2011

I think the recent storms in the south are a reminder off-site backup can be just as important these days as a local backup. I’ve been happy with CrashPlan and have successfully restored files from there. There are other options as well. (Sorry this reminder is a day after the usual first of the month)

It was a big NAB show last week with lots of people attending and a lot of products announced. This is a short linkage edition but with the NAB show there’s a lot of to kill time with. Here are some links from around the web.

FreshDV has some of the best coverage around the web. They did a ton of videos on everything from production to post so you can kill a lot of time watching their coverage.

Pro Video Coalition has its own dedicated NAB 2011 page with stories on many different NAB related topics. I posted a few iPhone videos over at the Editblog on PVC.

Of course we all know that Apple gave us a sneak preview of Final Cut Pro X and there’s tons of discussion of what we saw … of course. I posted my own piece about the demoed features as I saw them go by. All the usual suspects have chimed in: Larry Jordan, Walter Biscardi, Philip Hodgetts. Mike Jones says that FCP X is really not so new. I don’t think Digital Rebellion was there but they have comments from a developer pov. Here’s another piece that has what looks to be the best video captured that night.

fxguide has their NAB 2011 Wrap Up.

Digital Production Buzz had coverage every day of the show.

Here’s a report from an After Effects pov.

Studio Daily has a bunch of NAB videos. Post Magazine has their own NAB coverage as well.

Vimeo was at NAB too.
